Compared: The New iPad and The 2008 Macs

In an interesting comparison, Asymco’s Horace Dediu has put the Macs of 2008 head to head the with the two latest iPad models in their maximum configuration of 64GB and 3G. Even though it is a difficult comparison to make, some interesting results emerge, especially concerning price, screen resolution and processors.

The new iPad’s resolution is superior to anything a 2008 Mac had to offer, and at nearly $1000 less than the Macbook Air, both iPads do really seem like a good deal. You can also assume that the new A5X chip present in the new iPad would be superior to the Macbook Air’s 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Also interesting is that the new iPad has the same amount of RAM as the 2008 iMac had. Now that’s impressive. It just goes to show how quickly techonlogy is advancing. It can be difficult to keep up!
