China Exceeds U.S. In Overall App Store Downloads for the First Time

In addition to revealing that Newsstand now brings in $70,000 per day for Apple, a new report from Distimo also reveals that Chinese iOS users are now using more iPad apps than any of Apple’s other markets, including the United States – a fact that is especially significant considering that there are far more iOS devices in the U.S. than  China, which is still an emerging market for Apple.

The chart above displays app download distribution by country, based upon the top 300 free apps. The U.S. takes a relatively close second, and other parts of Asia are much less active than China when it comes to app downloads. The U.S. still leads the world in paid app downloads, however.

There were 1.1 million free apps downloaded in China throughout the month of February, with the U.S. trailing behind with 1 million app downloads, while the collective rest of the world accounts for 1.9 million app downloads. It’s interesting and exciting news, and bodes well for Apple’s continued growth in China.
