Apple TV Almost Entirely Sold-Out at Apple Stores, New Models Imminent

Electronista reports that the Apple TV appears to be almost entirely sold out, both online and from retail vendors. Only a handful of flagship sized Apple Stores still have any in stock.

The report says:

Checks through the online Apple Store in the US and abroad has shown that both retail and some online availability has almost disappeared entirely for the current-generation Apple TV. Only a handful of usually flagship-sized US retail stores now have the media hub, with even Apple’s preferred Stockton Street store in San Francisco now saying it won’t have a resupply until March 14. Most instead ask those wanting a pickup to “check availability.”

The US store still lists the Apple TV as in stock, but Canada, France, Germany, and others now show a rare one- to two-day shipping delay. The UK is showing two to four days. Resellers are known to have run out weeks earlier.

It is unknown if anything will be available in the stores immediately after the March 7th event, but an updated Apple TV replacement is almost certain to make an appearance at the presentation. Many expect a updated device, instead of a complete overhaul. An A5 or A5X chip is anticipated in the device, giving it 1080p video support.

Other questions remain, such as whether iTunes Store video will get the 1080p treatment, and if any additional third-party services will be unveiled.
