Apple has been the target of plenty of recent discussion over possible labor problems at Foxconn, their Chinese manufacturing partner. As such, many have suggested Apple should be bringing more jobs to the U.S. rather than shipping them overseas.
AllThingsD reports that the company has now posted a new webpage tracking its contributions to the U.S. workforce, claiming that the company is responsible for creating over 514,000 jobs in the U.S. between its own operations (304,000 jobs), and jobs it has created through its flourishing App Store economy (210,000).
Throughout our history, Apple has created entirely new products — and entirely new industries — by focusing on innovation. As a result, we’ve created or supported more than 500,000 jobs for U.S. workers: from the engineer who helped invent the iPad to the delivery person who brings it to your door.
Apple also highlights occupations such as their increasingly large retail work force, as well as those employed by the various U.S. support centers that field AppleCare and other customer support phone calls.
