Apple Projected to Sell Over 1 Million iPads on Launch Day

Apple’s new iPad pre-orders have already sold out at the Apple Online Store, and new orders are currently listed as shipping within 2-3 weeks, but according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, that’s only the beginning.

CNet reports that Munster sees Apple as possibly selling over 1 million devices when it hits retail stores this Friday. The estimate is based on current demand for the iPad, and ever-increasing consumer interest in tablets in general.

Considering that the new iPad is launching in more countries than ever before on an opening weekend, and that it includes groundbreaking enhancements such as an ultra high resolution Retina display, this estimate may in fact turn out to be a rather conservative one.

Apple will likely announced their launch day and opening weekend numbers sometime early next week.
