WSJ: iPad 3 to Feature 4G LTE Support, Available Through AT&T and Verizon

Support for 4G LTE high-speed data has been one of the lingering questions regarding Apple’s forthcoming next-gen iPad, but The Wall Street Journal reports that we can now put those questions to rest. According to the report, the iPad 3 will indeed feature 4G LTE, and will be available from AT&T and Verizon in the U.S.

Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats up.

Sprint is also rolling out an LTE data network, although it is unknown if they will carry the iPad 3. Considering that LTE networks aren’t very widespread yet (and virtually nonexistent in many countries), the device will revert to 3G when LTE networks are not available.

We’ve previously heard that the iPad 3 is set to be announced on March 7th. The device is expected to feature a faster processor and a high-resolution Retina display.
