iPad 3 to See $80 Price Hike over iPad 2?

A new report from MacRumors suggests that the iPad 3 may cost $80 more than its predecessor at launch, according to supposed leaked pricing data posted on Sina Weibo. This would mark the first time that Apple has deviated from their original pricing on the iPad (or any iOS device, for that matter).

It has been suggested numerous times that Apple may keep the iPad 2 around with decreased pricing as well. I very much doubt that Apple would increase the pricing on the iPad – their current price points have been very popular, and increased pricing for the iPad would seem to be unwise considering the increasingly affordable pricing of competing tablets.

The report is also based only on a single unverified report from a Sina Weibo user with no proven tie to Apple, and no established track record.
