It’s all but confirmed that the upcoming iPad 3 will include a 2048×1536 Retina display, but many don’t realize just how high resolution such a display would actually be. OS X Daily‘s Paul Horowitz shares a visualization from Chris Koerner that puts things in perspective.
As it turns out, an iPad 3 with a Retina display would contain more pixels than most Macs – only the 27-inch iMac boasts a higher pixel count! Horowitz points out that this presents an interesting situation for developers, in which the Mac apps they design will features lower-resolution graphics than their iPad apps!
All I can say about that is WOW! Of course, it may not be that way for long – rumors of HiDPI “Retina” Macs are picking up a lot of traction these days, and that would bring their screen resolution up to truly staggering pixel counts. Massive.
You can check out the full-size illustration here, but you’ll have to scroll your Mac’s display a fair bit to see the whole thing!
