We’re huge fans of Dropbox. It’s such an amazing way to keep your files in sync and access them from anywhere in the world. But its initial 2GB of free storage isn’t enough for some people. Fortunately, Lifehacker (via Gizmodo) shares a way that you can get 4.5 GB of Dropbox storage for free!
As Lifehacker discovered, Dropbox is running a beta test on its latest Experimental Dropbox build, 1.3.12 (available to download here), and will happily give you some extra storage for helping them test some possible new features.
The new feature in question allows you to automatically importa photos and videos from cameras, SD cards, or smartphones, and syncs the pictures with your Dropbox account automatically.
All you have to do is have a Dropbox account, install the beta software, and allow Dropbox to begin uploading your photos. The amount of free space you get depends on how much you upload. Dropbox confirms:
During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you’ll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 4.5GB total.
All beta software carries risks, so if you decide to participate, it’s important to make sure all of your data is backed up – including the pictures you’ll be transferring to Dropbox!
