Behold: The iPad 3 Retina Display (Probably)

It’s been quite a morning for iPad 3 rumors and speculation, and that doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon. Today’s reports include one from Japanese tech blog Macotakara, showing a photo of a high resolution Sharp panel that will likely serve as the Retina display for the iPad 3.

If this rumor is true, then it means that the iPad 3 almost certainly won’t be thicker than the iPad 2, as previous rumors have suggested, since Sharp’s display technology is thinner and more power efficient than the alternate displays with dual OLED backlighting that those rumors were based around.

The part was obtained by a parts reseller – the iLab Factory – which does provide some reason to be skeptical. Nevertheless, the size and trim of the panel are a perfect match, and this does line up with supposed iPad 3 casing pictures currently making their way around the internet.
