Apple Store Employee Suspected of Stealing Over $16,000 Worth of iPhones

Apple’s Northlake Mall retail store in Charlotte, North Carolina was recently victim to a significant robbery. But unlike most Apple Store robberies, this wasn’t just a smash-and-grab – the suspect is believed to be an  employee at the store.

The Charlotte Observer reports (via MacRumors) that 25 iPhones were stolen, with a value of over $16,000. The police report states that the suspect had access to the Genius Room, which lead them to suspect that a store employee was likely involved in the incident.

“The iPhones were stolen from the Genius Room located inside of the store,” a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report says. “The suspect did have access to the Genius Room.”

The stolen phones, which are valued at $16,425, include 22 16-gigabyte iPhone 4S models, one 64-GB 4S model, one eight-GB iPhone 4 model and one 32-GB 4S model.

Charlotte’s WBTV later confirmed that the suspect was indeed a store employee, as well as confirming that the 25 iPhones has been stolen between December 1st and January 11th. Police are still looking for the suspect.
