SSD Prices to Fall Below $1 per Gigabyte in 2012

Solid state drive prices will below $1 per gigabyte in 2012, Infoworld reports. This decrease in price should lead to more adoption, research firm IDC also notes. Flash storage is now widely used in PCs and by Apple, so this news could have an impact on the general prices of tablets and laptops as well.

The SSD industry has also benefited from the shortage of traditional hard drives as a result of the floods in Thailand. SSD shipments are expected to increase by 51.5%a year until 2015, so we could see the prices of SSD equipped Apple devices, such as Macbook Airs drop considerably even though Apple already make a huge profit from flash memory.
