It appears that Apple seriously swept the smartphone market in December, according to supposed internal AT&T data, making up a massive 66% of December device sale at AT&T corporate stores, compared to Android’s 8.5% share.
Mac Observer cites a source from within AT&T claiming that their corporate stores sold 981,000 iPhones from December 1st to December 27th, pummeling Android’s sales during the same period by nearly 8 to 1.
Even feature phones reportedly outsold Google’s Android devices in December, with 128,000 units sold during December, while Blackberry sold a reported 74,000 units.
The data doesn’t seem to match up with Apple’s overall market share or AT&T’s official December numbers in total, however, although December was a huge month for smartphone sales, and the iPhone has consistently been a best seller at AT&T.
AT&T has declined to comment on the figures, although Mac Observer remains confident in their source. The numbers do not take into account sales at AT&T’s authorized retailers or online sales.
It’s also worth noting that AT&T did claim to expect its best quarter ever for smartphone sales in December due to strong continued sales of the iPhone 4S.
