While we’ve heard many times now that the long-awaited iPhone 4s and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak is coming soon, today iOS hacker pod2g has announced that the jailbreak will be released later today, in “just a few hours.”
The new jailbreak tool will be called Absinthe, and will be accompanied by a second command line based tool from the iPhone Dev Team to be used for troubleshooting and repair purposes.
From pod2g’s iOS blog:
I know the wait was long, too much long, but it’s about to end! You’d be able to free your iPhone in some hours.
A tool named Absinthe and developped by the Chronic Dev Team will install the untether on your device. Also the iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) tool to help diagnose issues and repair things if it goes wrong.
The tool will be capable of unlocking any iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1, as well as any iPad 2 running 5.0.1 (5.0 seemingly not supported). We’ll be sure to keep you updated, and will let you know once the jailbreak goes live.
