Apple is planning to open new store-within-a-store outlets inside several Target locations later this year, Apple Insider reports. A source familiar with the project claims that the Apple dedicated areas will be operational in 25 of the larger Target stores near places that can’t support a standalone Apple Store.
Apple’s store-within-a-store policy is already present in over 600 Best Buys and staffed by Apple Solution consultants. Apple began selling the iPod at all Target stores way back in 2002, and then became the first seller of the iPad apart from Apple and Best Buy in October 2010.
This new Target partnership should greatly benefit Apple and add to the 245 Apple Stores currently open in the US. Target could also move beyond just selling iOS devices, with Macs, Airport routers and other products as new possibilities.
