Gannett Co, parent company of newspaper USA Today, are stockpiling iPhones and iPads, a leaked memo from Gannett’s newspaper division head Bob Dickey reveals. The memo, published on Gannett Blog, an unofficial company blog, details the company’s new technology strategy.
The memo claimed that Gannett had purchased “thousands of new devices”, including the iPhone 4S, the iPad 2 and various netbooks for journalists. Accessories such as MiFi wireless hotspots were also acquired.
The devices are expected to reach the newsrooms in January 2012, and journalists will receive training in early 2012 on how to use them.
“These new tools will help our journalists meet the demands of the new news cycle, one that requires agility in real-time reporting, social media and greater emphasis on video storytelling, further increasing our competitive advantage”
