An untethered jailbreak has finally been released by notably jailbreak hacker pod2g for iOS 5.0.1, and can jailbreak all current devices except for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
Previous iOS 5 jailbreaks have been tethered, requiring users to hook their device up to their computer and run a tool such as redsn0w to boot their devices each time they restarted.
For users already using a tethered jailbreak, a Cydia package called “Corona” can be downloaded and installed to untether your device. New users can apply the untethered jailbreak by downloading and running redsn0w 0.9.10 or PwnageTool.
Pod2g also warned through Twitter not to update to iOS version 5.0.2 when it’s released because it would “cut your jailbreak possibilities.”
Check out the full details over at the Dev Team blog. A version supporting A5 devices such as the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is expected in the near future.
