Apple’s highly anticipated television set will be released before next year’s holiday season, claims Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, and will integrate directly with iOS devices.
At this morning’s IGNITION: Future of Media event, Munster took the stage, not only claiming that Apple’s future television will arrive by this time next year, but also that it would be well worth it to consumers to refrain from buying a new television in the meantime.
According to Munster, Apple’s HDTV will come in a variety of sizes and differing price points, although the televisions will cost around twice what traditional HDTVs from other vendors will cost. He also claimed that the device would (of course) be integrated with iTunes and iCloud, as well as the App Store.
Cable, antenna or satellite TV will still be supported through a single cable or set-top box, but the TV won’t include a traditional remote. Instead, it will be controlled by either iOS devices or Siri.
Munster has made claims like this in the past, but considering Steve Jobs’ comments in Walter Isaacson’s recent biography, and the increasing attention focused on the Apple television, it might be a good idea to listen to Munster this time around.
