Digital downloads made up a big part of online spending on Christmas Day this year. According to the latest numbers from comScore, apps and digital media made up a full fifth of all spending on December 25th.
This is a sharp increase from the previous average of 2.8% between early November and December 26th, showing a remarkable 714% increase in digital downloads worldwide on Christmas day.
The increased figure is largely due to the rapid 353% increase in Android and iOS activations on the 25th documented by Flurry yesterday, with Christmas being the single largest day for mobile online purchases and app downloads ever to date.
Levels are likely to remain above normal as owners of new smartphones and tablets continue to explore their devices and customize them with apps and other content.
