Search giant Google has released their Zeitgeist 2011 feature, showing the top Google search trends of the year, and unsurprisingly, Apple products rank among the top searches of 2011.
According to the survey, “iPhone 5” ranked as the sixth fastest-rising search, likely driven by intense speculation leading up to the iPhone 4S release in October.
Consumers and analysts alike anticipated the release of Apple’s newest smartphone many months prior to its arrival. Rumored features included a larger screen, edge-to-edge glass, an 8 megapixel camera, and extensive voice controls. Many believed the phone would be called the iPhone 5.
Google reveals that searches for “iPhone 5” increased nearly 1700% since 2010, reaching their peak near the end of September, just prior to Apple’s iPhone media event in October.
Other top trending terms of 2011 include “iPhone 4S,” “Steve Jobs,” and “iPad 3,” as well as the iPad 2, Amazon’s Kindle Fire, and even Rebecca Black.
It’s pretty fascinating that so many Apple search terms were included in (or came close to being included in) the results – it certainly shows the almost magical power of Apple’s marketing (and fan hype).
