Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn is planning to invest $1.1 billion to double the size of their Chinese iPhone production factory, reports China Daily, making it the largest iPhone plant in the world:
The base will be centered on the Foxconn Science Park in Zhengzhou, provincial capital of Henan, increasing its current production lines to 95, said the Henan provincial development and reform commission during a conference. The expansion plan, costing 7 billion yuan ($1.1 billion), is expected to bring $20 billion in sales revenue in 2012, the commission said.
Foxconn is already Apple’s single largest contractor, and this new plant is expected to employ about 130,000 additional workers, and enable Foxconn to crank out an additional 200,000 iPhones every day (around 75 million iPhones per year).
Considering this boost, as well as Apple’s use of contractors besides Foxconn, and Apple could be set for a pretty incredible year in 2012 – and have the manufacturing power to crank out zillions of Macs and iDevices for everyone!
