Australian mobile telecom company Telstra has teamed up with Google to create Androidland, the one stop shop for all of your Android questions and devices, the Google Australia blog has revealed. Seeing as Android is open source, the store will likely serve to reduce brand and device confusion among customers.
You can immerse yourself in the Android-themed environment and try out the many different Android devices available, and you can even quiz Android specialists if you have questions.
If it proves a success, Google might think about expanding their “Androidlands” to the rest of the world, however mobile analyst Phillip Redman claims that Google can’t expect major revenue from the real channel:
I don’t think anyone expects major revenue from the retail channel, but it is becoming a necessity. With the number of phones, tablets and net books running Android, as well as the partner support, it makes sense.
First the Microsoft Store, and now Androidland? I sort of wonder whether any of these stores would have cropped up if Apple hadn’t done it first…
