There’s a new iOS gaming accessory in town, and its name is GamePad. Sporting two separate analog joysticks, ten action buttons, three menu buttons and a D-Pad, the GamePad promises to “significantly improve” the gaming experience on iOS devices. At least it might, if it was supported by more than two games.
The new controller resembles Sony’s PlayStation controllers, and hooks to an iOS device through the headphone jack, which it is able to draw power from, eliminating the need for batteries. It also includes an audio splitter so you can keep listening to music while the GamePad is attached.
60beat hopes that the controller will bring a much more console-like gaming experience to iOS, but I have to wonder – is that really what people want? Touch-based gaming has certainly taken off, and with the majority of iOS games optimized for touch, I wonder how useful this will really be.
The GamePad is available now for $50, and 60beat promises that many more games will be supported in the future. Check out 60beat’s website for more information.
