iOS devices have been gaining attention in the gaming community for some time now, providing inexpensive games that are beginning to make a serious impact on the gaming industry. It appears that the platform is making bigger waves than expected, however, as many gaming executives consider Apple and Steve Jobs to be the most influential figures in the gaming industry.
A recent study held prior to the London Games Conference polled 1,000 executives for the gaming industry. The survey has yielded an interesting (though unsurprising) result – that game industry executives consider Apple and Steve Jobs to have been the most influential figures in the gaming industry. A staggering 46% of respondents put Steve Jobs somewhere in the top five positions.
With the many high-quality inexpensive games available through the App Store, and features such as AirPlay Mirroring in iOS 5, allowing you to view games and other content wireless on the HDTV, it’s unsurprising to me that Apple is beginning to have a significant influence on the gaming industry.
Even Nintendo is feeling the burn, as the company is expected to report their first major annual loss in over 30 years, stating that mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad are partially to blame.
Personally, I’m excited with the impact iOS is having on the gaming industry! I think I’ll celebrate these results by firing up Real Racing 2 HD on my iPad and having a sweet console-quality wireless gaming experience on my HDTV!
