For me at least, playing the guitar remains an unachievable talent. If you find yourself in the same situation, a newly-released Apple called WildChords (free, App Store Link) might just be able to help. WildChords was created by Finnish startup Ovelin, and has already reached number 1 on the app charts in their home country.
The app makes it fun to learn how to play the guitar by combining many elements of Guitar Hero-like games while taking players though the basics of playing the guitar (without all the theory that can scare beginners away).
Replacing the fake plastic guitar used by Guitar Hero, WildChord uses advanced audio recognition technology to tell which chords your playing, and integrates this into the game, teaching you all the chords you need to know to get started.
The best part of this app is its price: nothing. That’s right, it’s completely free (at least to start with). The basic exercises are free, with add-ons available at $4 each through in-app purchase. According to developer and co-founder Christoph Thuer “it is going to bring the joy of music to the whole world”.
It seems like a great app, and is certainly the first one of its kind. WildChords is available now from the App Store (free, App Store Link).
