Minecraft fans, rejoice! Minecraft: Pocket Edition ($6.99, App Store Link) has finally arrived in the App Store, bringing its free-roaming, world building, productivity sapping goodness to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch!
For those of you that haven’t yet tried Minecraft, the game is an open roaming game in which players explore the world in search of minerals, which are used to built monuments, buildings, or anything else they can dream up. It’s seriously addicting game, and has been the cause of countless hours of lost productivity.
Minecraft – Pocket Edition allows you to build on the go. Use blocks to create masterpieces as you travel, hangout with friends, sit at the park, the possibilities are endless. Move beyond the limits of your computer and play Minecraft everywhere you go.
The pocket edition of the game isn’t quite as full-featured as its desktop counterpart, lacking several features such as craftable items, enemies, weapons, and underground dungeons, but the basic LEGO-like building elements of the game remain intact. Pocket Edition comes with local WiFi multiplayer, 36 different kinds of blocks, and randomized worlds.
Minecraft’s desktop version initially launched with a similarly slim feature set, so it’s quite likely that additional features and elements of the game will come to the app in future updates.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS is available now for $6.99 (App Store Link).
