Microsoft are known for their strange and cheesy commercials (see here) but Engadget reports that they’ve gone a step further this time by unveiling a huge Windows Phone in the middle of Herald Square, New York. Unfortunately, the 55-foot model is not a real phone, it’s just a set of screens which display the sample Windows Phone 7 home screen.
There is one cool feature of the giant phone – the screens can make way for live performances, which take place inside the giant phone itself. You can also demo the smaller phones in designated areas in the square.
The launch might be extravagant, but we will have to wait and see if the latest release of Windows Phone can challenge iOS. With the recent release of the Windows-equipped Nokia phones, it’s a good start, and it will be interesting to see if it can grab some market share from both Android and Apple.
