Xiaomi, a Chinese phone company, are getting ready to release what they claim is an “iPhone killer”, reports The Register. The smartphone, which runs Android, will be sold for an unsubsidized price of $310.
The dual-core, 1.2GHz phone has already received 300,000 pre-orders in the first 34 hours of availability, and appears to be a serious contender to the iPhone in China. Slightly more surprising is what the boss of the company, Lie Jun, said a while ago:
“[Steve] Jobs will die someday, so there are still opportunities for us. The meaning of our existence is just waiting for him to kick the bucket”
Who knows whether he meant it to be offensive, but it is a raw comment. We will see what happens with regards to the Xiaomi vs iPhone battle in China, but with a $300 dollar price tag, the Xiaomi will appeal greatly to the mass market (as long as the quality is up to par).
