AT&T Considers Using iPads in Place of Cash Registers

AT&T is investigating new retail ideas, reports AllThingsD, and has opened a new concept store in Chicago to try things out. One idea the company is considering is replacing cash registers with iPads, allowing associates to assist customers and handle transactions on the same device.

The carrier has also installed interactive wall displays to show off products, and has removed the counters and sales terminals that you’d typically find at one of AT&T’s corporate stores.

AT&T’s main goal in trying the new ideas is to break down the barriers between customers and staff, and set themselves apart from other wireless carriers by offering a better retail experience. Hey, it worked for Apple right?
