Mashable reports that aMusic, an iOS app that allowed users to access streaming music through Amazon Cloud Player, has been removed from the app store due to legal concerns. The app was available for $1.99, and allowed Amazon users a way to access their music without using Mobile Safari.
The app was developed by a third party rather than by Amazon, which may be part of the reason behind the concerns. Further concerns are spelled out by James Clancey of Interactive Innovative Solutions, who developed the app:
There are some legal issues with the music industry. The aMusic [app] is down temporarily. It will be back. Unfortunately I do not have a specific date when it will be back.
One suspicion behind the removal is that music labels, who are already concerned about Amazon and Google’s digital storage locker services, may be viewing the apps as threats and submitting complaints to Apple about the app.
