There have been a number of rumors suggesting that Steve Jobs was working on future Apple products while on medical leave, with one report even suggesting that he had planned out the next four years of Apple products.
PCMag has cast some interesting light on the matter by pointing out some recent comments from Masayoshi Son, CEO of Japanese wireless carrier Softbank. Son commented that Steve Jobs continued working on Apple’s next product up until the day before he passed away.
According to Son, Tim Cook cut a meeting with him short in order to take a phone call from Steve Jobs, and told Son that Steve Jobs was calling him to talk about their next product:
I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S [at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California]. When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, ‘Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.’ I said, ‘Where are you going?’ He said, ‘My boss is calling me.’ That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died.
Son has since spoken out about Steve Jobs, expressing his admiration and pointing out his dedication to his work until the very end as evidence for the incredible spirit and passion that Steve Jobs embodied. A clip of the interview is embedded below:
