Following AT&T’s announcement that they sold 200,000 iPhone 4S pre-orders in the first 12 hours, Apple has now announced that they’ve received over one million iPhone 4S pre-orders in the first 24 hours, shattering previous sales records.
Phillip Schiller (Apple’s Senior VP of world-wide product marketing) had the following to say in a statement within the release:
We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S…The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.
By comparison, the iPhone 4 sold 600,000 units in first day pre-orders, placing the iPhone 4S as having about 66% higher first-day pre-order sales. Pretty impressive for a device that so many found “disappointing.”
The iPhone 4S launches officially at Apple Retail Stores and certain other authorized resellers on October 14th. In addition to America, it will be available in Canada, Australia, the U.K., France, Germany and Japan this Friday, making it the fastest iPhone roll-out Apple has ever had.
