Besides announcing the new iPhone 4S and new iPods yesterday, Apple also released a new 8GB iPhone 4 lowered the price on both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4 can now be purchased for just $49 on a 2-year contract, and the iPhone 3GS will now be available for free on contract.
Lowering the price of these existing iPhones so significantly could really help Apple to address the less expensive segment of the mobile phone market, and compete with less expensive Android phones, especially if they decide to make either (or both) of these phones available with pre-paid service plans. The $49 8GB iPhone 4 is now the only model of the iPhone 4 being sold.
If you’re looking to buy an iPhone and you’re on a budget, this should come as excellent news.
