While you can debate the merits of iOS 5 and whether the initial release was really ready for the public (some users are reporting battery issues and minor bugs), it’s hard to argue with results. Analytics firm Localytics reports that at least 1 out of every 3 eligible devices are already up and running on the new firmware.
Although 1 out of 3 doesn’t sound that impressive at first, when you consider that this data is accurate as of the 17th of October (less than 5 days since iOS 5’s official launch on October 12th), the results are actually pretty amazing, especially for an initial release (many people wait until the first update to install).
Localytics obtained these numbers using their mobile analytics SDK, which is built directly into thousands of iOS apps, and as such is able to gain data from “tens of millions of devices.”
