The first two people in line at Apple’s flagship New York City store turned down an offer of $1500 for their spots in line, reports Mashable, stating “It’s not about the money, it’s now about the phone, it’s about the experience.”
The two early birds have been close friends for several years, and have each worked in promotions and marketing. The pair has been camping out at the store for 17 days, using trash bags to stay dry, and using Zipcars parked along the street to catch a few hours of sleep.
I’m not sure that sleeping in cars in New York (or lining up 17 days in advance) is such a great idea, but Mellow and Thompson remained determined to stick it out in the end, and hold their own to remain the first in line.
