Apple has begun constructing a solar farm next to it’s North Carolina data center, reports MacRumors, which will generate a significant amount of the power used by the facility.
The information comes by way of two separate articles from the Charlotte Observer and the Hickory Daily Record, revealing that Catawba County has issued permits to the company allowing them to alter the slope of 171 acres of Apple-owned land near the data center, although a building permit for the solar farm itself has yet to be issued.
It’s comforting to me to see large companies like Apple investing in clean alternative forms of energy – hopefully other companies will follow suit.
