New information found within Apple’s latest iTunes beta suggests that Apple may soon enable developers to rent or offer free trials of software in the iOS App Store, reports Tech Erra, allowing app users to try before they buy, or use an app for a short time without paying full price.
The code strings, pictured above, reference the possibility of App rental. I find it compelling to think that this is Apple’s terminology for free trials on App Store apps, allowing users to run the apps for a certain period of time, after which they’d be required to make a purchase to continue.
The report also speculates that Apple may introduce app rentals or trials at tomorrow’s iPhone media event. The event would be a likely place to make such an announcement if the report is accurate.
