Logitech just released their new Harmony Link, an adapter that uses WiFi to turn the iPad into the ultimate universal remote control. The small puck-sized hub communicates with the iPad through WiFi and sends out infrared signals to your entertainment devices.
The Harmony Link uses an iOS to let the iPad do everything a Harmony universal remote could do, and even supports macro-based tasks like playing a movie or listening to a home stereo. The solution also uses Rovi to provide a customized program guide to match your TV’s own guide.
In addition to acting as a full remote, the app also supports gesture-based commands for functions like volume, and will even work with multiple iPads. iPhones and Android devices can be used as remote controls as well, but the program guide is only supported on the iPad.
Harmony Links will begin shipping in October for $100. Both the iOS and Android apps will be available for free around the time of the release.
