In yet another sign that Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 5 is nearly upon us, DigiTimes reports that Foxconn Electronics is boosting iPhone 5 production to 150,000 units per day. Foxconn expects to ship 5-6 million iPhone 5’s in September.
The report goes on to say that a second iPhone 5 manufacturer, Pegatron, has produced up to 15 percent of the iPhone 5 orders, but their orders may not begin shipping until sometime next year.
iPhone 5 shipments are expected to be in the range of 5-6 million this month and top 22 million in the fourth quarter as Apple reduces shipments of the GSM and CDMA models of the iPhone 4.
Although DigiTimes has a mixed record when it comes to Apple rumors and predictions, their information seems both reasonable and intuitive in this case. Even so, as a rumor, take this with a healthy dose of skepticism.
