In a rare break from tradition, television network Fox is giving away the pilot of its brand new show “New Girl” on iTunes even before the season premiere airs on Fox.
The pilot episode is available now for free (iTunes Store Link), and is expected to remain available until it officially premiers to television audiences on September 28. The giveaway marks only the second time a US broadcaster has ever given away an entire polit episode prior to the network premier.
The New Girl pilot will also be freely available to view on Hulu, Fox, and certain other websites until the 28th, after which iTunes will begin charging and future episodes will become subject to Fox’s eight-day broadcast delay.
It’s notable that Fox has chosen the iTunes Store as one of its main venues to share the “sneak peak” of their new series, and the move is no doubt in response to the increasing popularity of the iPhone and iPad among consumer markets.
