Some new leaked images have surfaced showing the antenna assembly from the iPhone 4S, and comparing it to the antenna assemblies found in both the GSM and CDMA iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4S antenna, the middle iPhone antenna in the below image, appears to be very similar to the current CDMA iPhone antenna, only with a SIM card tray cut out appearing in the same spot as the GSM iPhone 4.
It should be noted that these images could have been photoshopped very easily, so their authenticity should be under question until better evidence comes to light.
The idea that Apple could release a new, cheaper iPhone 4S, perhaps with only 4 or 8GB of internal storage and a plastic front and back cover instead of glass, has been rumored numerous times in the past, and the antenna design does seem likely, especially considering that the Verizon iPhone 4 already uses the “Gobi” chip capable of connecting to both GSM and CDMA networks.
