Best Buy stores in Mexico are apparently working to rid themselves of their their Apple TV inventory, reports AppleBitch, by giving them away to any customer who purchases a qualifying Mac, fueling rumors of a possible new Apple TV model with an A5 processor and 1080p output.
The promotion is reflected in the above image, and is of particular interest in light of this morning’s Apple Online Store outage, with many users still unable to access the Apple Online Store.
Translated and paraphrased, the above banner indicates that customers can get a free Apple TV with any purchase of a MacBook or iMac. This may be the beginnings of a larger promotion that could spread to Best Buys in other countries.
The current Apple TV 2 has been around since September of 2010, meaning that it could well be due for an update, especially considering the alleged 1080p input and output abilities that iOS 5 may bring to the table – it would be odd for your iPhone to be able to handle 1080p high-def when the Apple TV is still limited to 720p.
The fact that iOS 5 will bring wireless mirroring from the iPad 2 to the Apple TB through enhancements to Apple’s AIrPlay technology might be enough to merit such an update.
Update: The Apple Online Store is now back online, with no visible changes. If you see anything new, please let us know.
