Apple Releases iCloud-Enabled iWork For iOS Betas To Developers

Following yesterday’s unveiling of iCloud.com to registered Apple iOS developers, Apple also released betas of iWork for iOS that feature iCloud support as well. The betas are only available through the iOS developer portal, and have no additional features other than iCloud support.

This marks the beginning of Apple’s “Documents In The Cloud” – one of the main features of iCloud, which Apple unveiled on June 6 2011, and which will be released this fall alongside iOS 5.

Documents In The Cloud will enable users to beging working on an iWork document on one device, and seamlessly continue viewing or editing the same document on any one of their other iDevices, or even a Mac – all automatically, without ever having to manually save your work.

The apps come in the form of a DMG file, and need to be dragged to iTunes 10.5 Beta 4 one by one, and then synced with an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad running the latest beta of iOS 5 (currently beta 4). Further, the iOS devices that you want to use the apps on must be provisioned on an iOS developer account, and you must use the latest version of Xcode (4.2 Preview 2) to mark your device for development to successfully sync the new apps. Failure to perform this step may render you unable to successfully sync the iWork for iOS betas to your device.
