Apple Planning To Refresh The Magic Mouse

Apple Planning To Refresh The Magic Mouse

Yesterday, reports emerged that Apple is planning on discontinuing the Magic Mouse. It has since emerged that Apple is in fact planning an update to the much loved Magic Mouse that will introduce more Lion based gestures.

It was rumored that Apple would ditch the Magic Mouse and instead focus their attention on the Magic Trackpad – making it their only supported peripheral “point & click” device.

However, a report from Cult of Mac indicates that Apple will in fact soon be updating the Magic Mouse..

Our source in Apple inventory has followed up with us, and it appears that Apple has instead discontinued the Magic Mouse’s old part number in favor for a new one. This move may indicate an update to the Magic Mouse, with the most logical prediction being better integration with advanced gestures in OS X Lion.

It’s unclear what new features a refreshed Magic Mouse will bring us. One of my issues with the Magic Mouse is with the weight. It’s easily the heaviest mouse I have used at 94 grams. Hopefully a refreshed Magic Mouse will be much lighter by removing the need to use batteries.

I would personally love to see a refreshed Magic Mouse that can be charged over the air (OTA). However, the likelihood that Apple will introduce OTA in the next Magic Mouse is low. The below video gives you an idea of how OTA may work..

What would you like to see introduced in a refreshed Magic Mouse?
