Following our report last week about Apple charging some users multiple times for their OS X Lion downloads, Apple has now begun issuing both apologies and refunds to affected users.
The issue affected users who had PayPal accounts linked to their Apple IDs as their primary means of purchasing, and resulted in one case of a man being charged 122 times for his Lion download.
Apple has been sending emails like the one pictured above to users affected by the issue. Further, John Christman, the man who was charged 122 times for his download, is reportedly being offered not only and apology and a full and immediate refund, but Apple has also agreed to cover any necessary banking fees and incidental expenses that he incurred as a result.
While this is good news, and it’s certainly a positive thing that Apple is making amends, I’m more concerned that Apple didn’t simply refund the duplicate purchases immediately, and then simply take the matter up with PayPal rather than making their customers wait.
If you were overcharged for your Lion purchase and reported the incident, you should be receiving one of these emails very soon (if you haven’t already received one). Any affected customers that haven’t reported duplicate purchases should do so as soon as possible.
