Wanna Use Serial Devices With Your iPad? There’s A Cable For That!

Some users have found need to use certain USB devices or even SD cards with their iPad, but what about a serial port? Those of you serial-lovers that still have a closet full of old peripherals are in luck! This unique RS-232 iPad serial cable is just for you!

The cable costs $59, and has a 30-pin connector on one end while a DB-9 connector graces the other. The accessory is a joint effort between Redpark Product Development and Keyspan engineers, but unfortunately, there aren’t any apps that I know of that support RS-232 devices!

Redpark is apparently trying to help developers build apps that can communicate with serial devices, so you may actually be able to use this cable in the future, as long the resulting apps manage to get approved by Apple.

In short, if you’d like to spend $59 on a crazy cable that currently can’t be used for anything beyond decoration, be my guest – here’s the link! As for me, I’ll spend my $59 on something a little less ancient.
