More excellent news about the iPad’s increasingly significant role in education – a report from the Orlando Sentinel reveals that the Lake Minneloa school in Central Florida will soon be equipping their students with iPads to use at school and take home to use for homework.
The school spent around $700,000 on the 1,750 iPads they purchased, and claims that the decision was made in order to save money on textbooks, as well as to engage their students with a new type of learning tool.
“Students learn differently now because of the technology,” said Kathy Halbig, innovative learning manager for the Lake school district who is overseeing the project. “Students are used to having multiple sources and being able to have more social collaboration in their learning process rather than just doing it sitting quietly and reading.”
Further, the Sentinel reports that “The iPads will be locked so students won’t be able to install their own apps and the devices will be wrapped in a rugged case to protect against breakage.”
