Want a fresh break from a weak and unsubstantiated rumor mill? How about some confirmed product info? Apple has just leaked images of a new Thunderbolt-enabled cinema display, and the model numbers (extracted from the images) match up to part numbers earlier rumored to be for new Mac Pros or white MacBooks.
To make matters even more exciting, Apple has even unofficially confirmed this “rumor” by posting a new image of the upcoming display on their site, and identifying it (in the URL) as the “MC914” part, which has most recently been thought to be a new white MacBook.
Aesthetically, the new Cinema Display looks to be very similar to the previous model, except instead of having a Mini DisplayPort, it will have a Thunderbolt I/O connector (and probably two, just like the new iMacs, so you can plug additional Thunderbolt-enabled devices into it).
Further, Apple appears to be updating all of their promotional imagery for Macs and displays to show an OS X Lion desktop background rather than the Snow Leopard one found on the older Cinema Display, and on the products currently available in the Apple Online Store. One such example, above, shows an iMac displaying Lion’s Galaxy wallpaper, and Apple’s iMac page is currently displaying Lion on an iMac as well.
Additionally, Several images have been found showing the new Cinema Display paired with a number of Mac products, including the Mac Mini, further fueling speculation of further upcoming product releases. There’s also a neat image, below, of a MacBook Pro hooked up to two LED Cinema Displays that are daisy-chained together via ThunderBolt, suggesting that the Apple Cinema Display will have two Thunderbolt ports (as that’s what’s required for daisy-chaining).
