According to a recent report, iOS 5 might bring bluetooth keyboard support to the Apple TV, as revealed by some code snippets found in iOS 5 beta 3. Could this mean that app support is right around the corner?
Bluetooth support, which is not currently present within the AppleTV version of iOS, has been discovered within iOS 5 beta 3, and the indications are that Apple will be turning on this support when iOS 5 launches this fall. You can see the code snippet pictured below:
This could mean several things: That you could use your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad as an external keyboard for the Apple TV, or that you could use any bluetooth keyboard. Bluetooth keyboard support could upen the doors for application support on the Apple TV.
According to the report, users will be able to activate the bluetooth support via the Apple TV’s settings menu, where you’ll be able to swiftly and easily pair your bluetooth keyboard just like in iOS for the iPhone and iPad.
The implications of keyboard support for things such as Mobile Safari are obvious, and would be tremendously welcome additions to the Apple TV. Another possibility is that this feature will be designed to work with an upcoming version of the AppleTV, which could perhaps be released this September at Apple’s annual iPod event.
