Apple Stores To Use Dedicated Mac Pro Servers To Wirelessly Distribute Lion Nearly Instantly

Remember when we reported that Apple would allow customers to bring their Macs in and use the Apple Store wi-fi to download Lion? Now it appears that Apple will be using dedicated Mac Pro-based Lion install servers to nearly instantly beam Lion to customers’ Macs.

The servers will reportedly allow customers to purchase Lion through the Mac App Store and download the entire 3.5GB chunk in mere minutes. This would help speed things up with customers doing installs in the store, and will be an immense help to customers that lack fast broadband internet connections, or who want an Apple employee to help them with the install.

Furthermore, they will reportedly use a special Wi-Fi tower to greatly speed up the process of transferring Lion to connected machines. This also means that the internet connection at those Apple Stores won’t be bogged down and cluttered by swarms of customers downloading Lion – Yeah, I’d say this Lion install server is a pretty swell idea..

Of course, if you have an iMac, a Mac Mini, or a Mac Pro, things still might get sticky – you might need to bring your Mac in on one of the above carts!
